I need advice on personal property rights?

I have a bass head and a floor tom head for a drum kit that was givin to me from my bass player that came from the old drummer of the band. They were taken from him because he sold a snare drum that belonged to the bass player with out his permission and used that money to buy the drum head. On top of all that he let a pair of exspensive Hi-Hat cymbals get stolen at a show. i have had the drum heads since december of 2008 and i havnt used either of them. Now the old drummer and his dad called me threatening me wanting the heads back... Isnt there a law that if u have physical possession of something for a certain amount of time that it legally becomes yours?

advice would be greatly appreciatedI need advice on personal property rights?
From what you have stated, the heads were given to you as a gift.

If all the other stuff happened after you were given the heads, you have no reason to return them.

On the other hand,it will depend on who actually owned them and who gave them to you.

If the person who gave them to you was not the rightful owner, then I would suggest you return them.

Possession is 9/10 of the law except in the case of stolen property.

If your not using the heads or paid for them, then you're not out any money and can let them have the heads back.
