Online Personal Training advice as a career?

I've seen a couple of things in newspapers saying there's quite a few people making a living from starting a business as 'an online personal trainer', you know giving people advice and info and workout/diet plans etc as you would if you were actually their personal trainer. I thought it would be pretty silly to pay for this stuff seeing as you can get advice for free on the net anyway, but hey.

Anyone know about this stuff and whether it's worth looking into because I'm a personal trainer myself but ain't too great with the computer side of things, some of my friends reckon it's about to take off, I don't know, what do you guys think?Online Personal Training advice as a career?
I have to agree with your friends.

However there is no point starting this unless the consumer is ready.

You need to be sure that there are enough customers out there that are willing to be taught in this route, have a computer in the right place and have a big enough screen.

Go down to your local business gateway for help on this.

If you think that there are enough customers then the next step is to develop a delivery plan.

Then you need to develop a website (email me through my blog - but you can set simple websites up for free, try http://pages.google.com).

You then need to market it and let people know it's out there. If you are already a personal trainer then use it to compliment your current classes, for example a morning routine.

There are lots of websites out there to help you get off the ground.

Good luck,

it depends on how you go about it. You may end up spending way more money than you will make... or vice versa.

If you are not good with computers then you will have to hire a developer.. I dont' know if you want to go that route.

If you just want to get your feet wet, I recommend purchasing a domain, building your own site (most domain companies offer web developing tools)

and then, the most IMPORTANT part of having a web business is advertisement! If people don't know your site exists noone will ever visit.

Reputation is everything. A cheap way to do this would be to go to vistaprint and make some business cards, flyers, postcards, etc.

Best of luck to you
