So I'm getting bored of always having straight hair.
Th rubber curlers or the big hair rolls don't work.

Oh my god! Stay away from those! I got that from my friend on my last birthday and it just burns your hair (and fingers) horribly. I would recommend getting a regular curling iron at a beauty supply store.Do curlers really do the job? Personal experince advice needed :)?
yep, I use a 1'; revlon curling iron..
You can either curl your hair the traditional way by clamping your hair and twisting the barrel, OR for soft waves take a small segment of hair and manually wrap it around the curling iron (hold it for a few seconds, and let go).
EDIT: My curling iron cost about $15
